An event which allows its participants to experience the anxiety of being part of a competition and the euphoria of winning or the misery of a "so-near-and-yet-so-far" ending.
History
Who doesn't want to be a winner or get free stuff? So heralds the birth of the CONTEST! With it, one can get something which one likes (be it cash or prizes) without having to work for it (literally). Of course, a contest implies that some action out of the ordinary is required from the participant, be it designing a logo or writing an article. The human competitive spirit makes one put in even more effort to do well in a contest as opposed to a giveaway.

Weblog or Blog contests are becoming the in-thing with the rise of the Internet. Some of these contests require minimal effort from the participants but offer lucrative prizes.
